Soft Tissue Massage
Soft tissue includes muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Following a hand injury, soft tissues tend to tighten up. Certified hand therapists are trained to massage and mobilize soft tissues in specific ways to achieve relaxation, pain relief, and eventually a full return to mobility.
Soft tissue massage also helps reduce swelling and inflammation. It’s been proven an effective treatment for patients experiencing discomfort or pain from wounds, burns, breaks, fractures, and even amputations.
Although soft tissue massage treatment at Midwest Hand Therapy is customized based on the patient’s specific injury and number of injuries within the hand, often times firm direct pressure is applied to the affected area to help eliminate stiffness and help the muscles relax.
Soft tissue massage is not painful and is also used for the prevention of injury, especially with athletes.
